Why did you join wrestling?
W/ CODY BERNTSEN
Cody is the creator of such characters as, Prophet, Justin Sane, and Sydicate. He is an XCW Hall of Famer and current SFT US Champion. The following is an Out-of-Character Interview with him.
SFTMag: Cody, How did you stumble upon E-Fedding?
Cody Berntsen: Well, I have always been a huge wrestling fan, and ever since I was a kid I have been told I was a pretty good writer. So in a way, this is perfect for me. But I actually "stumbled" upon e-fedding when one of my friends (name is Rob Worthen) told me about it a couple years back. I was immediately interested, and he recommended a good promotion for me. I joined it, and ever since that day, I have been 100% hooked.
SFTMag: Where did you get the idea for your first big superstar, Justin Sane?
Cody Berntsen: Let's be honest here. There have to be at least 50 Justin Sane's on the internet. It is no secret that the name is a take off of "Justin Credible". However, being he was my first character, I didn't really care. I joined as Justin Sane, and made a name for myself as Justin Sane. There were a few times where I considered changing his name, but then I thought, who cares what other people think? I striked gold with this guy, I am not changing his name! To this day, although Justin is happily "retired" (he is rumored to be somewhere in Guam with Tupac & Jim Morrison), he is still my all-time favorite character. I lived my "glory days" with that guy in XCW, and he will never be forgotten.
SFTMag: What is the first thing you did when you read that you won the XCW World title?
Cody Berntsen: I don't even remember exactly, but I do remember being excited. It was my first World Title ever. I just remember thinking "I can now say I am the top dog in this place". It was really cool, I gained a lot of respect from everybody, being I was the underdog going into the match.
SFTMag: How did you feel about the XCW/SFW Merger, and the creation of SFT?
Cody Berntsen:Ouch, you just struck a nerve. Most people know I was a die hard "XCW-ite", along with people such as Nathan Gust, Apocalypse, Connor MacDaddy, etc. I was really upset about the merger at first - XCW was my home, I started there and I wanted to end it there. But don't get me wrong, today SFT is a great product. If you want to know what my feelings at the time were, however, you could say I was extreme pissed off and I wanted to beat those responsible over the head with a fucking light tube.
SFTMag: In SFT's beginnings, The SFT website was hacked, and Shadow pin-pointed you as the culprit. 1. did you do it and 2. do you still hold a grudge over that?
Cody Berntsen: Oh man. ANOTHER NERVE. Did I do it? No, I didn't. Why people blame me, I will never know. Anybody, and I stress the anybody part, who knows me knows that I don't know how to "hack" or send "viruses". If I was some evil computer genius like I was made out to be, I would have probably done it again just because how people were being complete assholes to me and accusing me with no proof (yes, despite what you may have heard, there was no actual evidence against me). Now, do I still hold a grudge? Nah, not really. A mistake was made, and I accept that. Hell, I make mistakes all the time. However, I will go on to say that anybody who STILL thinks I did this bullshit, you can just keep your head up your ass where it belongs.
SFTMag: You and Pettis made RWA shortly after that incident, and made yourself one of SFT's biggest enemys. RWA didn't succeed very well, and you were blacklisted in SFT. How did you convince the SFT staff to give you another shot?
Cody Berntsen: Oh yeah, the Renegade Wrestling Alliance. This place was made purely out of hate for Shadow. One night, Pettis invited me to some chat room, where a good chunk of the SFT roster were talking. Pettis then announced the RWA, and asked me to co-run it with him. I jumped at the opportunity, as did many SFT stars. This turned out to be an all-out war between the SFT and the RWA. I LOVED it! However, due to a LOT of bad luck (Pettis losing his computer, me getting a job), RWA was shut down. After that, all the RWA guys went back to SFT like nothing had ever happened. When I tried to go with them, the proverbial door was slammed in my face. I was told I was no longer welcome in SFT, because I could not be trusted. However, I had friends in high places who helped me out. I really appreciate what these guys did for me - getting me back into SFT. Let's just say that SFT was desperate for talent at the time, and unless they reinstated Cody Berntsen, they would lose a lot of it.
SFTMag: In SFT, you were first known as Kris Ryder. How did you come up with the idea, and what inspired you to make Kris?
Cody Berntsen: Well, Kris Ryder did not originate in SFT. The talented, young, good lucking, and all around awesome canuck actually made his debut in the Overload Wrestling Alliance, owned and operated by Bryan Statis. There he teamed with fellow Mafia Inc. member, Jay Edwardz. They captured the OWN Tag Team Titles, but shortly after, OWN shut down due to a lot of no-shows. After this, Ryder went along with Nathan Gust to SFT, which has definately been his claim to fame. Now, what inspired me to "make" Kris? I was really inspired by a great roleplayer known as Canada's Hero, who was residing in the well-known PCW at the time. I originally made Kris to team with him, but then C.H. had to take a break from e-fedding for a while. So here I am.
SFTMag: Then Kris Ryder transformed into Prophet, Why did you feel it was necessary to change Kris Ryder?
Cody Berntsen: Quite frankly, the egomaniac taking on the world gimmick just got old. I needed a change. So I got in touch with the Dead Pac, and decided to introduce something new and innovative onto the SFT scene - that thing was Prophet, the alter-ego of Kris Ryder who was completely under control by Shadow and the rest of the Dead Pac. However, since then, Prophet has left the Dead Pac (via the now infamous "Shadow on fire" incident) and is pursuing other goals, such as his role as United States Champion.
SFTMag: If you could face anybody, alive or dead, from any federation. Who would it be and why?
Cody Berntsen: That's a tough one, but I know two people who I'd love to face. Those two men are Apocalypse and Hellraiser, both from classic XCW. I won my first World Title from Apocalypse, and we became great friends, however he retired a while back. And Hellraiser. Well, any XCW followers will remember the Justin Sane/Hellraiser "Burning Warehouse Match", over the feud for Becky. That was awesome, and I'd love to do it again. Oh, I want to wrestle Chimpo The Chimp, too.
SFTMag: Last question, Would you ever consider an actual wrestling career?
Cody Bernten: Wow, now that is a tough one. Anybody who knows me well knows that I LOVE independant wrestling (for all the WWE marks out there, indy wrestling are the small promotions scattered across the globe). With me living in Los Angeles, there are a ton of indy feds out here, and I attend shows almost on a weekly basis. One great thing about indy wrestling is that the wrestlers really appreciate the fans more, and they are always willing to answer questions, sign autographs, or just converse with them after a show. Hell, I've talked to AJ Styles and Jerry Lynn in the past month. This would definately inspire me to attend the local school, Rudo's Dojo, and give it a shot. If I ever will, I don't know.
The views of Cody are his and not mine. So don't bitch at me.
Chimpo's Corner w/Shawn Walsh
Hello, Welcome to the very first, Chimpo's Corner! I, Chimpo the Chimpo, Will be interviewing SFT's top superstars! It'll be cool! This week... SHAWN WALSH!
Chimpo: Hey, This is Chimpo the Chimp, and I'm interviewing the #1 contendor for the Intercontinental Championship, Shawn Walsh, Shawn, Wazzzzaaaappp!
Shawn Walsh: ..... You okay, buddy?
Chimpo: C'mon.... say it........ Waazzzzzaaaapppp!!
Shawn Walsh: What's... Up?
Chimpo: WAAAAAAAZZZZAAAAAAAAAAPPPP!!!!!!
Shawn Walsh: Meh... WAAAAZZZZAAAAAPPPPP!
Chimpo: That's my boy! question number one! Brandi James... she's hot.
Shawn Walsh: Yes, very.... I agree. But... That was a question?
Chimpo: QUESTION TWO! Sean Lane.... The IC Champ... when are you going to face
him for it, and how will you feel knowing that your hot little number, Brandi,
will be watching
Shawn Walsh: I'll face him next week. As far as how I will feel knowing Brandi is watching... It feels good. She'll be able to watch me completely tear her ex-boyfriend apart. What a glorious night that will be.
Chimpo: Amazing! QUESTION FOUR...
Shawn Walsh: Right.....
Chimpo: Did you see that gorilla escape to zoo in boston and attack a little girl? THAT WAS CRAZ-AY!
Shawn Walsh: Hahaha, I laughed more than I ever have in my entire life. That was great. An instant classic moment in history.
Chimpo: QUESTION EIGHT! If you ever got a title match against Brandi James, would you kick her ass?
Shawn Walsh: Now, everyone knows that I would do anything for Brandi... But if given the title match - whoch should be coming my way soon - I would not go easy on her, nor would I take her lightly.
Chimpo: That's Incredible! I can't Believe it... The Insanity!
Shawn Walsh: I think you need some ritalin. Maybe I could get Sean Lane to give you some - that drug is the only thing keeping him sane now.
Chimpo: OH MY GOD! Shawn Walsh... On Inferno you face Radiant. Are you angry that his X-Treme title is not on the line?
Shawn Walsh: Xtreme title? Hahahaha, that's all Radiant. I don't fight for petty shit like that. I don't need an Xtreme Title, I am a WORLD TITLE contender! This match is about revenge. That son of a bitch came at me at Lethal Lottery: Life's a Gamble... And now... I am going to make him wish that he NEVER fucked with me.
Chimpo: HEY, THERE WILL BE NO SWEARING IN MY INTERVIEW!
Shawn Walsh: FUCK! SHIT! ASS! BITCH! CUNT!
Chimpo: YOU BETTER STOP... OR I'LL, I'll... aww fuck it. okay... QUESTION TWENTY! You are a former member of RWA. RWA was nutorious for hating SFT. Do you still hold bad blood with SFT today?
Shawn Walsh: I hate damn near everyone in SFT. I am here for one reason and one reason only - to destroy everyone who opposes me and to take every damn title in this rinky dink federation.
Chimpo: what about me? Do you hate me?
Shawn Walsh: Not really hatred... Yet... You're just a little, uh, off.
Chimpo: So, I guess you could even say... that you love me?
Shawn Walsh: No. I am in love with one person... Brandi James. So if you say anything like that to me again... I will file a restraining order.
Chimpo: ... AWK-WARD! Quick, Staring contest.......(stares at walsh)
Shawn Walsh: (Walsh raises his fist.) Stop that.
Chimpo: ..........................
Shawn Walsh: You need to calm down. I really should check into that ritalin for you. You interested?
Chimpo: ..............................you blinked! I win!
Shawn Walsh: Sure, you win. Want a cookie?
Bobby Bulletz vs. Lexington Steele
(- Standard Match -)
He's a rookie, but his promos were... ummm... entertaining.
Natus Morningstar & Erik Martin vs. Bone Breaker & Slayer vs. JayJay & Kranky the Klown
(- Tag Team Match - Two Role Play limit Per Team -)
JayJay almost beat Brandi James, so they can probobly pull this off.
Suicyde vs. Virus 2.0 vs. Mike Zybala
(- Double Cage Match -)
Mike is useally very motivated enough, so he will be during this match.
Radiant vs. Shawn Walsh
(- Standard Match -)
I think Walsh can take him.
Glenn Owen and Hectzilla vs. Sean Lane and Rose Thorn
(- Lethal Lottery Finals -)
It's Glenn Owen, The British Badd Ass. He can win it.
Knife vs. Dj Shocka
(- Standard Match-)
DJ Shocka is okay.
b2 Brian Bane vs. Dylan Dunn
(- Standard Match-)
Dylan has better promos. I guess.
JC Stubz vs. Bella Morte
(- Hardcore Match -)
Just a guess.

British Badd Ass
Well, BBA wil probobly win the Lethal Lottery, and nobody can beat him, just because of the respect that the staff has for him. So unless Brandi pulls a mircle out of her ass (I'd watch that, haha), BBA will be the next champ.

Shawn Walsh
Walsh won his #1 contendorship at Life's a Gamble, and I think if he tries hard enough, he could be the man to bring Sean Lane down.

Clayton Walker
I think if Clayton were to have a US title shot, he might be able to beat Prophet, it's a close call though.

Rico Smith
Well, nobody can beat me, Connor MacDaddy, but the person with the highest chance of beating me in the TV range is Rico, Plus, he's that TV guy.

Gavin Winters
After coming off the TV belt, I think he'd make a great Lightweight champ.

Connor MacDaddy
I deserve it, i want it, I could really do that belt some justice.

JayJay and Kranky The Clowns
Yeah... well... yep... Clowns...

Toughman competitor, bouncer, one time minor league baseball player and Howe Painting(once a family business)
Still a good old fan of Pong
After various failed attempts at other normal jobs I thought I'd give my life one more chance of living by giving a wrestling career a try. No one's life is perfect but, if anyone knew mine then they'd know mine was the complete opposite. Becoming a wrestler has been the biggest direction change I have made and it has worked for the best. For the most part anyway.
